Kurt Ganapathy pays a visit to the historical landmark on the eve of its demolition to bring you this lovely set of pictures.
For 43 years, it stood as a silent sentinel, watching over Chinatown – and the CBD and Keppel Harbour on either side of the enclave – a Brutalist beacon with an unmistakable horseshoe shape.
But, despite wishful calls for it to be conserved, time has run out for Pearl Bank Apartments. After its $728 million sale was announced in February 2018, residents of the 38-storey tower were given just over a year to move out, and by the end of April 2019, it was empty.
Just before its demolition got underway, we revisited one of the most distinctive elements of Singapore’s skyline.
