Kai debuted under SM Entertainment in 2012 as the first revealed member of EXO. The group achieved overwhelming success from their debut, which propelled them to the forefront of the 3rd generation of K-pop.
In 2020, Kai embarked on his solo career with the release of eponymous extended play (EP) KAI (开) (2020), which quickly went platinum. The title track Mmmh (2020), a dynamic R&B-pop song, peaked at number one on Circle’s Chart Download Charts.
Subsequently, Kai released Peaches (2021), which became his second EP to reach platinum, and Rover (2023), which debuted at number one on the Circle Weekly Album Chart and dominated the iTunes Top Albums chart in 40 regions, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.
