“My cosplay name is Toshiro, and I started back in 2009 when I was still in poly.  After having done anime and other eastern-inspired characters these past 7 years, I only recently tried doing westernised cosplays.

I chose the Joker because I wanted to reach new grounds with my makeup. Some cosplayers wear masks; those can be recycled. But when it comes to makeup, you don’t always achieve that same look that you want. I personally feel it’s an art form.

It can be very upsetting when you don’t pull off a certain character well, but when you do succeed, it can be rather rewarding when fans of that character find that you’ve done an adequate job in bringing him to life.

Additionally, I’ve always been a fan of Mark Hamill’s works, from his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars to voicing the Joker in RockSteady’s Arkham game and animated series. So choosing this character today was really no big surprise.” – Alexander, 25
