“I’m currently reading ‘How to Be Single’ by Liz Tuccillo. I watched the movie on the plane, but it was too vague and didn’t really make sense, so I decided to give the book a chance.
It talks about how women are brought up with this idea of getting married and having children. It also goes deep into the issue of being single and the pressures that come with it in many parts of the world.
Yes, I’m single. I honestly thought that I could be happy with someone, but after the recent drama in my life, I guess that’s just not my reality. It’s quite personal, but I’ll just say that it was a good learning experience that made me grow closer to God.
It also got me counting my blessings. There are many types of love, and this experience opened my eyes to the fact that I have always been loved by the people around me no matter how screwed up I am, be it my family or friends.
Do I feel pressure to find love? My mom has always told me that I do not need a man to survive, so I’m not looking for it. When it happens, it happens. Like what the book says, it’s important to love yourself before you can love others.
My ideal man? I don’t ask for much. He has to be someone who allows me to be myself and makes me feel very comfortable when I’m with him. Being taller, dark-skinned and good-looking is a plus, though. I do have a thing for Malay and Indian guys, hahaha!” – Beatrice, 31

The idea is to first love yourself before loving others.
