“I’m currently a Tourism Management student at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). I was more into accountancy to be honest, but I didn’t secure a spot in NYP’s accountancy course, so I ended up choosing my second best option.
I think there’s been a growth in the tourism sector ever since MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions) was introduced. There are so many conventions and exhibitions in Singapore every month; I’m really excited for Vision 2020 and how that would impact tourism here.
Right now, my dream is to start a backpacker’s inn. I’m a fan of adventure and backpacking, so I’d like to start a business that combines these interests. You need good communication skills and lots of contacts to make that happen, so I’m starting early and building connections now.” – Hilman, 20
