Phase 2: 50 Photos of Singapore’s Reopening This COVID-19 Season

As circuit breaker restrictions were eased during the first days of phase two, Kurt Ganapathy trekked around Singapore to record life during a new normal.

On the morning of June 19, 2020, after 73 days of circuit breaker measures and a restrained first phase of reopening, Singaporeans woke up to a new version of everyday life.

With the arrival of phase two, lovers, friends and extended families were finally able to meet again. We could dine in at our favourite restaurants, cafés and kopitiams. We could head back to gyms, shop for more than necessities, go fishing, visit plant nurseries and try our luck with 4D.

While many restrictions will remain in place until a vaccine is found, the first days of the reopening’s second stage marked a welcome return to parts of life as we knew it, and Singapore embraced the moment.

The war against the coronavirus is far from over, but for now, we have some respite – a small victory worth celebrating (responsibly).
