There’s something about the Mid-Autumn Festival that fills you with childlike wonder.

Perhaps it’s the mooncakes that appear almost everywhere; the forms and flavours getting more outlandish with each passing year. Perhaps it’s the memories of those nights by the playground, carrying accordion-shaped paper lanterns that could burst into flames at any moment.

Or perhaps it’s just the time of year – with the seventh month behind us, the Mid-Autumn Festival is our cue to start thinking about year-end holidays, Christmas feasts and New Year’s partying.

But before all that, with Chinatown and Gardens by the Bay decked out for the occasion, the Mid-Autumn Festival provides an opportunity to spend time with the people you care about – even if the daily rain tries its best to dampen the mood.
