Description
On 11 July 2026, the National Library Board will host an engaging panel discussion titled From Mental Monsters to Mental Mastery: A Unique Dialogue Between Fiction and Frameworks at the Central Library.
The panel will feature Carrie Tan, former Member of Parliament and author of the groundbreaking book Micro Moments: How Your Mind Sabotages You Everyday, as well as Jared Poon, author of the best-selling urban fantasy novel City of Others.
Together, they will explore how literary insights and philosophical wisdom can be translated into concrete strategies for mental clarity, emotional resilience, and leadership, bridging the worlds of fiction and science for personal transformation. This event is not a typical book talk, but a dynamic exchange between:
- Carrie Tan, whose work spans public service (former Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, 2020-2025), social impact (Practice Lead at Tri-Sector Associates) and transformative coaching (Lightbearers’ Collective). Her book, Micro Moments, launched in April 2026, reveals how invisible split-second decisions shape our lives and offers a framework and technique for daily application to break free from reactive cycles; and
- Jared Poon, whose novel City of Others uses speculative fiction to explore Singaporean work culture, how we deal with loss, how families shape us, and how we might cultivate our inner gardens to become the best versions of ourselves.
