Celebrate two fantasy-book debuts at Steampunk & Starfire, a fantastical gathering featuring creative workshops, author talks, tabletop games and merchandise from local makers.

Fantasy readers, artists and tabletop gamers can gather at The Bondfire Tavern for an entire day of storytelling and mystical happenings on Saturday, 26 September 2026.

Steampunk & Starfire celebrates the publication of two debut fantasy books by local authors Chin Yuqin Casey and Joshua Dharmawan. The programme combines book launches with creative workshops, games, trinket trading and fantasy-themed shopping.

Every ticket tier includes admission to both book launches and a complimentary drink. Guests can also enjoy 15% off all main courses at the venue during the event.

Celebrate Two Fantasy-Book Debuts

The afternoon’s literary programme begins with the launch of A Crown for the Promised, the debut fantasy novel by Joshua Dharmawan.

Two-time The Straits Times bestselling writer Cleo Cheng will speak with Joshua about the worldbuilding, creative process and inspirations behind his novel.

This will be followed by the launch of Knight Alight. Author and artist Chin Yuqin Casey will share the creative adventures and artistic experiments that led to her debut fantasy novella, with Cleo returning as emcee.

Create Monsters and Magical Characters

Visitors who want to exercise their own imaginations can sign up for one or both of the event’s creative workshops.

Making a Monster

Running from 12pm to 3pm, this art workshop explores monsters and the myths surrounding them before guiding participants through the process of designing their own curious creatures.

The session will be led by Chin Yuqin Casey and is suitable for participants interested in illustration, storytelling and character design.

Hot Magical Boys Do Hot Magical Things

The evening workshop, taking place from 6pm to 9pm, invites artists and writers to create captivating magical characters, charged chemistry and fictional worlds shaped by desire and enchantment.

Trade Trinkets, Play Games and Read the Cards

The fantasy experience extends beyond the scheduled book talks and workshops.

Anyone who purchases a copy of Knight Alight can receive a complimentary oracle card reading between 3pm and 9pm.

Guests can also bring a small treasure to the Trinket Trading Post, where curious keepsakes can be exchanged for pocket-sized pieces of somebody else’s story.

Tabletop gamers can try Legions of Kadmon, a boss-rush card game designed for two to four necromancers. Demonstrations will be available from 12pm until closing.

Shop Fantasy-Themed Creations by Local Makers

A selection of independent makers will offer handcrafted and fantasy-inspired merchandise throughout the event.

Look out for crochet creations from HelloBhavCrafts and Artsy_Ando, wirecraft jewellery by Cerealcrafts, and leather goods from Cleathercrafts.

Special collaborative items will include scented creations and candles from Crys Knick Knacks, clay figurines by Pancake with a Face, and keychains from Fever Fiction.

Our Take

Steampunk & Starfire offers something refreshingly different from a conventional book launch. Readers can meet the creators behind two new local fantasy works while artists, writers and gamers have plenty of opportunities to participate.

The mix of literary conversations, hands-on workshops, tabletop gaming and independent crafts makes this an especially interesting September outing for Singapore’s fantasy and creative communities.

EP Tip: Choose your ticket tier according to the workshops you want to attend. Students should enter the promotional code STUDENT during checkout and bring a valid student ID. They must also register for a complimentary Bondfire membership at the venue to receive the discounted rate.
