Presented at the Objectifs Chapel Gallery, Tan Lip Seng: A Life in Colour celebrates the photographic legacy of one of Singapore’s most respected photographers.
Known for his slide, travel and photomontage photography, Tan captured the quiet rhythms of everyday life, Singapore’s evolving landscapes and scenes from his journeys abroad. His richly layered images and pioneering colour-derivation techniques earned him recognition both locally and internationally.
In 1970, Tan became the first Singaporean to receive a Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in the United Kingdom for his achievements in pictorial colour transparencies. He was subsequently awarded the Singapore Cultural Medallion in 1985.
Through works spanning approximately 60 years, the retrospective honours Tan’s lifelong dedication to photography while introducing his contribution to Singapore’s visual heritage to a new generation of visitors.
Exhibition Programmes
A series of talks and workshops will take place alongside the exhibition, which runs from 8 August–27 September 2026. Registration or separate workshop fees may apply for selected programmes.
